MAC changes in .VMC file

Source: microsoft.public.virtualpc
Sent: 11/17/2004
From: Ryan Smith
Message:

File is located in c:/program files/microsoft virtual PC DIR. We use a
shortcut to point to the .VMC file. Every time a new user logs in Virtual PC
re-writes the .VMC file <ethernet section.

In this section:

<ethernet_card_address type="bytes">0003FF7D77DC</ethernet_card_address>
<is_dynamic_assignment type="boolean">true</is_dynamic_assignment>

Change "is_dynamic_assignment" to false and we should not attempt to
change it.

Thanks Ben however the string didn't help. I want to make sure I have
injected the change correctly. I added string: <is_dynamic_assignment
type="boolean">true</is_dynamic_assignment> after the string:
<ethernet_card_address type="bytes">0003FF7D77DC</ethernet_card_address> and
replaced true with false. When I logged off and logged in with a different
user. VPC replaced the MAC with a random address and removed string:
<is_dynamic_assignment type="boolean">false</is_dynamic_assignment>
It's as if, when VPC is launched for the first time it clears out the code
and adds it in fresh again. We have tried to make this file read only but we
get an access denied error. We would use the version without the service pack
however, the service pack fixes a printing issue we had.
Thanks again for your help,
Ryan
