I know nobody is working on BeOS anymore, but I have a copy and sure would
like to play with it via VirtualPC. When I try booting from an ISO image of
it, it seems to start fine but I quickly get an "unrecoverable processor
error has been encountered" message.

Someone in the BeOS community said it may be an AMD Athlon problem but I
have no idea. I found a partial solution at
http://www.beosmax.org/screenshots/vpc2004/vpc2004.htm but the web site it
refers to is down because of SPAM.

This is because of an AMD Athlon issue - it works just fine on a Pentium
host.

That's quite a link you gave there, but it doesn't help. The crash happens
during install but I'm now starting to think my ISO file may be bad. I
downloaded a BIN file of BeOS 5 that was 700 MB but when converted to an ISO
file by WinISO 5.1, the file became only 85 MB.

Also, the installer doesn't let me choose VESA (just a bunch of standard
resolutions but none worked).

Yeah, I think your ISO conversion failed, I think it should be closer
to the 700mb after you convert, than 85MB.

My BeOS PE5 image file is around 620MB.

If VPC is going to support a non-Windows OS, I'd prefer it would be
something thats still being supported by the authors/company that
created it.

I'll give my BeOS 5 a try on VPC2K4SP1 and let you know what happens.

My BeOS installed fine. I did get some kind of deskbar error on start
up, but I restarted it and it works fine. Although, I installed on a
P4, not a AMD system.

My version seems to be BeOS 5 Max PE, but it looks nothing like the
screen shots at beosmax.org, my display is in black and white and I
didn't see an easy way to change the video settings.
