I would like to know if the Microsoft VirtualPC product either a) currently
has - (or) b) will in the future have - support to read and manage existing
VMWare virtual disk files. I have a number of OS's currently installed under
VMWare and would consider using the Microsoft Virtual PC environment provided
that I don't lose the capability to use my existing vmdisk files.

Currently you can use an imaging tool to image the VMWare
VM and then restore the image to a VPC VM. Of course you
have issues related to the different emulated hardware,
and any VMWare drivers/apps would need to be removed
before imaging.
