Mapping a Network drive in DOS

Source: microsoft.public.virtualpc

Message:

I am booting DOS from a floppy and attempting to map a shared folder on my
Host PC (same as the PC that VPC is running on) as a drive - I have done
this many times with a "regular" PC without problem. I have the DEC drivers
and they bind to the NIC fine, but when I execute the NET.exe USE I:
\\mypc\sharedfolder command I get an error message that the network is busy,
or that the specified host name is not available.

I have 2 NICs on my card and have tried several different things - using a
crossover cable between the 2 cards - and setting the network adapters in
VPC to be both the actual adapters and "Local Only". None of the things I
have tried has worked - what am I doing wrong?

As some background info, my NIC #1 (normally connected to my work network)
is set to use DHCP, and NIC #2 (connects to any development PC I am using)
uses a static IP. I am hesitant to leave NIC #1 connected to my work network
because other developers have had problems being locked out of our network
when VPC creates a virtual MAC address - our IT dept has things set up to
lock "intruders" out.
